Benjamin Crockett

Business Development Director

Ben has been involved in the Spatial Services and software industry in Australia for 20 years. Prior to this Ben had exposure to a range of Spatial Projects in the UK and Europe.

Trained and educated in Sydney in Finance Economics and Law, Ben quickly put aside any aspirations in these fields when he discovered GIS and Spatial Technology. Having been involved in some very interesting and challenging Spatial Projects over the years Ben brings a wealth of project and software knowledge to Chartis Technology.

Projects have included automated classification of raster imagery and surface cover using e-Cognition technology, compilation of a complete fire history using modeling techniques in FME, automation of asset placement in regards to Cadastral shifts, sign collection and Mapping for City of Sydney & ESRI based mapping services and automation of land access maps.

Prior to joining Chartis Technology, Ben had experience working at 1Spatial Australia, Lagen Spatial, Xoomworks UK, VennGroup UK & AUSTRAC.

Being a Director at Chartis Technology will allow Ben to concentrate on delivering customers the best solution for their project, without bias towards certain desktop technologies. Ben’s focus at Chartis Technology will be for customers to gain value for money, an upfront costing structure, on time delivery and constant personal contact.

Matthew Robinson

Technical Director

Matt leads the Technical and Software Development Teams at Chartis Technology. Matt’s technical ability allows Chartis Technology to provide Enterprise Spatial Solutions for a broad range of customers in the industry. His experience has been developed by working on projects in verticals such as Local, State and Federal Government, Mining, Utilities, Telco’s and the Commercial Sector.

Prior to joining Chartis Technology, Matt worked in a range of senior positions at 1Spatial, Lagen Spatial and Bathurst Regional Council. He also holds a Bachelor of Spatial Information Systems. He has also led a team to deliver a cutting-edge infrastructure Enterprise Asset Management system which utilises spatial technology to solve Engineering team’s most difficult problems. 

Matt is passionate about mentoring others in learning spatial technology and uses his experience to define strategies that allow customers to take advantage of the best technology in the industry. Utilising and supporting Open-Source software communities play an important role in enabling him to deliver solutions to the industry.

Outside work, Matt enjoys cycling, camping adventures, learning new skills that don’t involve spatial and spending time with family.

Sophie Webb

Marketing Manager

Sophie is a dynamic Marketing Manager, with experience in the travel, hospitality and events industries. She brings a wealth of global experience to Chartis Technology, having spent time working abroad in both London and Singapore.

As a Full Stack Marketer, responsible for content creation to SEO, from social media to analytics, Sophie brings a unique blend of strategic thinking & creativity to every campaign.

Driven by a passion for building strong relationships and delivering exceptional results, Sophie excels at driving business growth and exceeding client expectations through impactful marketing initiatives.

In her downtime Sophie loves to explore new destinations and experiences with her family, fuelling her lifelong love for travel and adventure, having visited 35 countries and counting!

Caroline West

Administrator

Caroline is a versatile Administrator with a wealth of experience across a range of industries from mining, government and finance to sports, music and hospitality. 

She brings a varied and adaptable skill set to the role having worked across business administration, recruitment, marketing and event operations, combining practical know-how with a calm, people-focused approach.

Her career has taken her from London to Australia, with highlights including contributing to a digital start-up project for the 2012 London Olympics, overseeing corporate hospitality at major global sporting events, and managing a brand-new boutique hotel in Perth.

Driven by a love of learning, great experiences and genuine human connection, Caroline thrives in fast-paced environments and enjoys roles that blend people, operations and creativity.

Outside of work, she has a particular passion for sport and music and loves spending time with family, discovering new places, and embracing a bit of adventure along the way!

Nathan Woodrow

Lead Developer

Nathan Woodrow is the Lead Developer at Chartis Technology and is responsible for many of the internal and external software development projects we embark on.

He is passionate about providing a good user experience in the software we develop and solving problems that better the users day to day use of the software.

First getting involved in GIS and software development at a regional QLD Council, he got heavily involved in the QGIS Project when exploring alternatives to MapInfo. He joined the development team in 2011 after learning what open source was and how you could make your own changes to the software to improve your workflows.

He has been responsible for many of the fundamental features and workflow refinements in QGIS, covering a whole range of areas from cartographic enhancements through to data provider access. He was directly responsible for improving the quality of life of QGIS users daily through his development of the live map styling workflow.

Outside of work he is passionate (some might say very) about art & board gaming.

Chris Milne

DevOps Manager

Chris Milne is a Software Engineer, Asset Management consultant, and former Local Government professional.

During his years in Local Government, Chris worked in various roles from Building Surveyor and Assistant Town Planner, to Assets Co-ordinator and Finance Assistant.

As a Software Engineer, Chris focuses on programming languages like Go and JavaScript, implementing both backend and frontend solutions. As an Asset Management consultant, Chris is proficient in unifying disparate finance, data, and geospatial information registers, as well as providing assistance with asset capitalisation matters.

In his spare time, Chris enjoys reading horror novels and singing along with his guitar.

David Baxter

Business Development Manager

David Baxter is an experienced Business Development professional with a strong technical background specialising in enterprise spatial systems.

David commenced his career with a Bachelor of Applied Science Cartography and has now been working exclusively in the field of geographical information systems for over 30 years.

David is passionate about working closely with clients to ensure they achieve real benefits from spatial technology. 

David enjoys balancing his work life with high adrenaline activities outside the office including surfing, skiing and mountain bike riding.

Rhys Harrington Downie

Spatial Team Leader

Rhys Harrington Downie is a Spatial Technology Professional who leads the team of spatial consultants at Chartis Technology.

Rhys enjoys bringing together people and technology to achieve successful outcomes. Having worked with a variety of opensource and commercial GIS software across of range of organisations and industries, Rhys draws on his experiences and seeks to apply them to new challenges. He is motivated by providing robust technology solutions to happy customers.

When he is not working he likes to ride his bike, plan and execute a DIY project, or plot the next family outdoor adventure!

Andrew Jeffrey

Spatial Technology Consultant

Andrew Jeffrey is a Geospatial Technology Consultant at Chartis Technology. Bringing nearly 20 years of experience in the spatial industry his expertise spans data collection, analysis, system design, and implementation, Andrew has a comprehensive understanding of all facets of the geospatial profession.

Andrew is passionate about using open-source software and is an advocate for its adoption. He believes that open-source solutions provide an accessible entry point for individuals and organisations to leverage industry-leading spatial functionality.

Andrew finds great satisfaction in creating solutions that automate mundane workflows, enabling customers to save time with repeatable and efficient processes. By helping clients build a solid spatial foundation, he empowers them to explore cutting-edge applications that drive innovation and growth.

Kathy Ross

Spatial Technology Consultant

Katherine is a seasoned consultant, trainer, and technical support engineer with over 15 years of experience in the spatial industry.

She is proficient with a wide range of GIS, database, ETL software and a variety of scripting languages. Katherine specialises in end-to-end data migrations and data visualisation.

She aims to deliver solutions that exceed expectations and is known for her swift and effective support. She focuses on bringing laughter and wonder into each training course. 

In contrast to a hardworking ethic, she is laid-back at home most often found in front of a TV, phone or Computer when child wrangling duties are complete.

Sam McMillan

Spatial Technology Consultant

Sam McMillan is one of our Spatial Consultants who first started their career in GIS as a Survey Technician in Western Sydney for 7 years before joining the team at Chartis Technology.

With his strong analytical skills and understanding of the complexities involved with managing a council’s spatial data in it’s many forms, Sam helps our clients set up and maintain their GIS solutions using a wide library of spatial programs. One of these programs is QGIS, where Sam is one of our trainers, helping others learn to manage and maintain their spatial data.
